Emma McEvoy completed her Advanced Diploma in Photography as a part time student in 2013 and her images which 'speak to the light and dark within us all' saw her awarded the 2013 Student Photographer of the Year with both the AIPP and the ACMP.
This image "The paradox of safety" was a part of Emma’s final year, art major series. In this body of work Emma looked at the human condition with a specific focus on feminine consciousness and emotional/psychological struggle. Images speak to the light and dark within us all. This image in particular looks at that moment when the safety of our nest becomes unsafe.
“There are lots of “nests” we need to leave to live fully: identities we inherited or developed that no longer fit; beliefs that do not serve Life; fears that stop us from embracing change. And yes, sometimes the truth of life- the challenges & the beauty of who & what we are- will catapult us out of the nest. And we discover our wings. We find out we can fly!" ~Oriah
