“The sublime, in the proper meaning of the term, cannot be contained by any sensible form.” Immanuel Kant, Critique of Judgement 1790
Night is the prefect vehicle through which to explore this idea of the sublime. In darkness, familiar forms change, spaces shift and shadows vibrate allowing the mind room to move beyond the “sensible forms” of daylight hours.
It's attendant associations with sleep and dreams further enhances our imaginative reading of images taken after dark. At night fear and possibility exist side by side. My work seeks to explore this paradox.
